50th Anniversary: International Symposium on Study Abroad for Undergraduates and High School Students

On Sunday, September 29th, 2024, the International Symposium on Study abroad for Undergraduates and High School Students was held as part of the 50th Anniversary projects. This was planned and organized primarily by undergraduate students of our university.

A total of 32 people attended the event, including 4 high school students and 15 undergraduates. Mai Kiritoshi, a fourth-year medical student and member of the International Symposium Working Group, chaired the event. The first half featured presentations by undergraduate students on two key topics: “Campus Life” and “Experiences of Studying Abroad.” Afterward, guest speakers, Dr. Sugawara, a young nephrologist with overseas experience, and Dr. Shimada, a former visiting associate professor at our university and author of numerous books on studying medicine abroad, shared their experiences and insights.

In the second half, participants gathered for a get-together at the SUMS Kitchen, which is set to reopen. Students, faculty, and staff engaged in open discussion on a variety of topics, including personal study abroad experiences, motivations for pursuing careers in medicine or nursing, and thoughts about the challenges of studying abroad.

This symposium provided a valuable opportunity for students to boost their motivation to study abroad and prepare themselves to become medical professionals with a global perspective.
